Table of Contents
The general Options tab presents several options relating to Xfmedia's behavior:
The Playlist section allows customization of how the playlist itself behaves.
The "Title Display" option allows the title displayed in the playlist to be customized. Hover the mouse over the text box for a tooltip description of how the format string works.
"Advance playlist when track ends" determines whether or not Xfmedia will automatically play the next entry in the playlist when the current entry ends.
"Don't save playlist on exit for one-shot invocations" determines how Xfmedia will decide whether or not to save the playlist on exit. If checked, Xfmedia will try to guess whether or not the current playlist is intended to be kept, and, if so, will store it in ~/.cache/xfmedia/playlist.m3u. The next time Xfmedia is started, it will load this playlist. With this option checked, Xfmedia will assume that the playlist should not be saved if it was started with an argument list.
The "Load metadata" option controls when track metadata is loaded. If "On scroll" is selected, Xfmedia will load track metadata for playlist entries when they become visible in the list. "On play" instructs Xfmedia to only load metadata when a file is played, and "Never" causes Xfmedia never to load metadata. One of the latter two options may be desirable if many playlist entries refer to files stored on the other end of a slow network link, for example.
The Window section allows customization of how the control window behaves.
"Show Xfmedia on all workspaces" will set Xfmedia "sticky" such that it is displayed on all workspaces or virtual desktops.
"Keep Xfmedia above other windows" will set Xfmedia "always-on-top" such that no other windows are allowed to cover Xfmedia's control window. Note that this relies on a compilant window manager to work properly.
"Dock and auto-hide Xfmedia at screen edges" will cause Xfmedia to shrink to a 3-pixel-wide (or tall) bar when Xfmedia is placed on a screen edgeand the mouse leaves the Xfmedia window. When the mouse touches the small bar, the control window will reappear. This allows Xfmedia to take up even less space than collapsing the playlist does.
Xfmedia has support for a system tray icon. This requires a Freedesktop-compliant system tray manager, such as that which comes with Xfce4, GNOME2, or KDE. Select "Show tray icon" to enable the tray icon.
Enabling "Minimize Xfmedia to tray icon" causes Xfmedia to disappear from the system taskbar or window list when it is minimized. Xfmedia will reappear if the tray icon is clicked. Clicking the tray icon while the Xfmedia window is visible will cause the window to be hidden.
